HOW THE DIAPHRAGM PRESSURE GAUGE IS USED TO MEASURE THE PRESSURE?

  Also known as pressure-volume seals, sealed diaphragm pressure gauge make up the majority of all pressure-measuring types. It consists of a diaphragm and a fill tube (or diaphragm cradle) that is generally welded to a pipeline or tank. The diaphragm is usually made of stainless steel and has a cavity in its center. The cavity is filled with a fluid that acts as an insulator, preventing the pressure from building up. The cavity is also used to carry the operating fluid. When electrical power is applied, the operating fluid expands, thus creating pressure. This filling fluid is used as an insulator, preventing pressure from building up. The filling fluid also acts as a shock absorber and protects the diaphragm from corrosion.  

  

How does it work? 

The diaphragm is a type of flexible membrane that is used in some types of pressure gauges. It is circular and is filled with liquid compatible with the process medium and is calibrated to a predetermined amount. The liquid side is mounted on a fiberglass reinforced metal frame and is connected to a pressure gauge with a pressure line. The membrane side is connected to the process media which deflects the membrane upwards. As the diaphragm deflects (moves up and down) from the process positive and/or negative pressure, the deflection is transmitted to the pressure gauge which displays the pressure on a dial. The diaphragm pressure gauge is a tool that is used for measuring the pressure in a process. It consists of a circular metal frame containing a liquid filled membrane that is mounted on a fiberglass reinforced metal frame. The membrane side is connected to the process media which deflects the membrane upwards. As the diaphragm deflects (moves up and down) from the process positive and/or negative pressure, the deflection is transmitted to the pressure gauge which displays the pressure on a dial.  

  

Where are the uses of diaphragm seal in sealed diaphragm pressure gauge? 

A diaphragm seal is a type of piston used in equipment that seals air-tightness under pressure. It helps to stop air leaking out and thus maintaining internal pressure and temperature. Diaphragm seals are most commonly used in gas, water and oil processing industries. The outer casing then forms a tight seal around the pistons and its movement is limited. Diaphragm seals are available in many different materials, different combinations of materials and in different configurations. The main factors that determine the performance of a diaphragm seal are the type of material used and the configuration of the design. For example, certain materials such as bronze, cast iron, plastic and rubber have a better heat transfer coefficient than others. The variation in performance is due to these properties.
